HILO – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Big Island motorists of a 24-hour one lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road at Mile Post 15 in the vicinity of Hakalau. The closure begins Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. and will be ongoing until Friday, Mar. 11, 2016.

A single lane closure is required for pavement reconstruction as part of the Hawaii Belt Road Resurfacing, Pepeekeo to Hakalau project. Both lanes of the two-lane roadway will be reconstructed, one at a time. During the closure, traffic will be contraflowed in the remaining open lane with temporary traffic signals controlling the flow of traffic in both directions. Roadwork is weather permitting.

HDOT reminds motorists to drive with caution through the work zone and to allow for extra travel time. Weekly lane closure information will be posted at the HDOT website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/hawaii.
