Weekend lane closures on Liliha Street scheduled to begin Friday, Mar. 11
Posted on Mar 7, 2016 in Highways News, Main, NewsHONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) alerts the public that two northbound lanes will be closed on Liliha Street between North King Street and Vineyard Boulevard beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Mar. 11, continuously through 6 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 13, as part of the Liliha Street Rehabilitation project. This is the first of three weekend closures that are necessary to complete the project. The public will be notified in advance of the closures.
During the closure, traffic will be contraflowed in the southbound lanes, providing motorists one travel lane in either direction through the project area. Left turns from Liliha Street to Vineyard Boulevard and King Street will be restricted during this time. Construction crews will perform roadway reconstruction work that requires a continuous closure. Special duty police officers will be on site to assist with traffic flow. Electronic message boards will be placed in the area in advance of the weekend closure to alert drivers of the work. While one lane will remain open for drivers in both directions on Liliha Street, motorists can also utilize Aala Street or Palama Street as possible alternate routes.
In addition to the weekend work, the Liliha Street Rehabilitation project will continue its regularly scheduled single southbound lane closure on Monday, Mar. 7, through Thursday, Mar. 10, from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m., daily, for new curb, gutter, and sidewalk installations as well as drainage improvements. All left turns will remain open. Roadwork is weather permitting.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead and drive with caution through the work zone. Lane closure information will be available on the HDOT website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/. Updates are also released through our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter.
