HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) alerts the public that two southbound lanes will be closed on Liliha Street between North School Street and North King Street beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016 through 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2016 as part of the Liliha Street Rehabilitation project.

Special duty police officers will be on site to assist with traffic flow. Electronic message boards will be placed in the area in advance of the weekend closure to alert drivers of the work.

During the closure, traffic will be contraflowed in the northbound lanes, providing motorists one travel lane in either direction through the project area. Left turns from Liliha Street to North School Street, Vineyard Boulevard and North King Street will be restricted during this time. Motorists are advised to use Aala Street or Palama Street as possible alternate routes. Construction crews will perform roadway reconstruction work that requires a continuous closure. More weekend closures will be scheduled in the future.

In addition to the weekend work, the Liliha Street Rehabilitation project will have a right lane closure at the North School Street intersection in the northbound direction from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and a lane closure in the southbound direction from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2016 and Tuesday, June 14, 2016 for sidewalk and railing reconstruction. There will also be center lane closures in both directions between North Kukui Street and Vineyard Boulevard from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 and Thursday, June 16, 2016 for underground utility installations. All roadwork is weather permitting.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead and drive with caution through the work zone. Lane closure information will be available on the HDOT website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/. Updates are also released through our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter.
