HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) alerts the public that two northbound lanes will be closed on Liliha Street between North King Street and the H-1 Freeway eastbound on-ramp beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016 through 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2016 as part of the Liliha Street Rehabilitation project.

Special duty police officers will be on site to assist with traffic flow. Electronic message boards will be placed in the area in advance of the weekend closure to alert drivers of the work.

During the closure, traffic will be contraflowed in the southbound lanes, providing motorists one travel lane in either direction through the project area. Left turns from Liliha Street to Vineyard Boulevard and North King Street will be restricted during this time. Motorists are advised to use Aala Street or Palama Street as possible alternate routes. Construction crews will perform roadway reconstruction work that requires a continuous closure. More weekend closures will be scheduled in the future.

In addition to the weekend work, the Liliha Street Rehabilitation project will have a right lane closure in the northbound direction between Vineyard Boulevard and North School Street and a right lane closure in the southbound direction between North School Street and Kiapu Place on Monday, July 18, 2016 through Friday, July 22, 2016 for sidewalk and curb reconstruction. All roadwork is weather permitting.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead and drive with caution through the work zone. Lane closure information will be available on the HDOT website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/. Updates are also released through our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter.
