HONOLULU – Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) crews have completed debris removal and installation of temporary barriers on H-1 Freeway overpass. This overpass reaches over the H-201 Moanalua Freeway and leads to the Airport on-ramp from the westbound H-1 Freeway. A barrier on the overpass was damaged at approximately 2:30 p.m., Thursday, March 29, 2018, when crane counterweights fell from a passing truck and hit the barrier.

Debris from the damaged barrier fell onto the H-201 Moanalua Freeway. All lanes were cleared by 5:30 p.m.

HDOT crews have installed temporary barriers on the H-1 Freeway overpass to prevent vehicles from inadvertently traveling off the roadway and to allow both lanes on the Airport on-ramp from the westbound H-1 Freeway to be reopened. A reduced speed limit of 20 mph is in effect for this area until further notice.

The overpass structure has been inspected and determined to be safe for use. An update on scheduling for the permanent fix of the barrier will be provided next week.
