Weekend closure of the Kipapa Stream (Roosevelt) Bridge begins Friday night, July 20
Posted on Jul 16, 2018 in Highways News, Main, NewsHONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) alerts Oahu motorists that Kamehameha Highway will be closed in both directions between Ka Uka Boulevard and Lanikuhana Avenue from 9 p.m. on Friday night, July 20, 2018, continuously through 5 a.m. on Monday morning, July 23, 2018, for bridge rehabilitation work at the Kipapa Stream (Roosevelt) Bridge.
During closure hours, motorists may use the H-2 Freeway as an alternate route. HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time to get to their destinations and check traffic apps like GoAkamai.org to plan their commutes.
This is anticipated to be the final weekend full closure needed for the project. The project is estimated to be completed by September 2018.
Following the completion of the bridge rehabilitation work, Kamehameha Highway will be restriped between the Kipapa Stream Bridge and Lanikuhana Avenue to increase motorist, bicyclist, and pedestrian safety. The roadway will be restriped to accommodate two 11-foot travel lanes (one northbound lane and one southbound lane), a 3- to 6-foot median, and 4- to 6.5-foot shoulders. Electronic message boards will be posted to warn motorists of the closures. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Emergency vehicles and first responders have been notified of the roadwork and will be allowed through the closure. TheBus will be advised to take an alternate route. Roadwork is weather permitting.
