Kahului Airport to conduct triennial emergency response exercises
Posted on Sep 25, 2018 in Airports News, Main, NewsKAHULUI – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) Airports Division will be conducting a triennial emergency response exercise at Kahului Airport Fuel Farm Facility located at 80 Kaonowai Place on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The realistic exercise is a Federal Aviation Administration certification requirement to test airfield disaster preparedness and response. The drill will simulate an airliner crash at the Fuel Farm Facility. Approximately 80 volunteers from various agencies and Maui Kamehameha High School students will play the role of casualties.
Participating agencies will include the Kahului Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting teams, Kahului Airport Staff, Federal Aviation Administration, Transportation Security Administration, Maui Police Department, Maui Fire Department, Maui Civil Defense, Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, Emergency Medical Services, Hawaii Disaster Medical Assistance Team, American Medical Response, American Red Cross, Maui Memorial Hospital, Healthcare Association of Hawaii, Maui Visitors Bureau, US Coast Guard, Department Land and Natural Resources, user airlines and other state agencies.
All flight operations will continue as normal during the exercise. Motorists are asked to be aware of additional emergency vehicles and security personnel along Keolani Place entering and exiting Kahului Airport.
