HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that Farrington Highway will be closed in both directions between Upena Street and Kili Drive at Makaha Bridge #3 over the next four weekends for bridge deck replacement work. The schedule is as follows:

  • Saturday night, April 6, through Sunday morning, April 7, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Saturday night, April 13, through Sunday morning, April 14, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Saturday night, April 20, through Sunday morning, April 21, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Saturday night, April 27, through Sunday morning, April 28, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Traffic will be detoured around the closure in both directions via Makaha Valley Road, Ala Holo Loop, Huipu Drive, and Kili Drive. See detour map below.

This work will ensure that Makaha Bridge #3 is structurally sound until it and Makaha Bridge #3A (just north of Kili Drive) are replaced. The replacement projects are estimated to advertise in early 2020.

Electronic message boards are posted throughout the area to notify motorists of the closure. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and the detour route.

HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time and to drive with caution on the detour route. Roadwork is weather permitting.
