HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) informs Oahu motorists that Fort Barrette Road will be closed in the northbound direction between Kapolei Parkway and just past Kamaaha Avenue on Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, through Friday, Feb. 28, 2020, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for pavement repair work.

During closure hours, motorists traveling in the northbound direction will be detoured at Kapolei Parkway, and may take a right onto Manawai Street, a right onto Kamokila Boulevard and a left onto Makakilo Drive to continue to the Makakilo area.

In sequence with the closures on Fort Barrette Road, the westbound through lane and turn lanes will be closed on Kamaaha Avenue at the intersection of Fort Barrette Road. Motorists traveling in the westbound direction will be directed to take a left at Kaiau Avenue, a right at Malu Ohai, a right at Kapolei Parkway, and a left onto Fort Barrette Road to continue southbound; or may take a right at Manawai Street and a left onto Kamaaha Avenue to continue westbound; or stay on Manawai Street and take a right at Kamokila Boulevard and a left onto Makakilo Drive to continue northbound.

Resurfacing work on Fort Barrette Road is expected to be completed by April 2020. Following the daytime work finishing on Feb. 28, nighttime roadwork will commence in March 2020, at the heavily trafficked area of Fort Barrette Road and Farrington Highway intersection. HDOT will notify the public of this schedule as it becomes available via our social media outlets, Facebook and Twitter and posts to our HDOT website at hidot.hawaii.gov. All roadwork is weather permitting.

HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time and to follow all traffic control signs when driving through the area. Electronic message boards will be in place to notify motorists of the closures and detours. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control and safety procedures. First responders, emergency vehicles and TheBus have been notified and will not be allowed through the work zone.
