Participates in the general maintenance, repair, and upkeep of structural steel, composite concrete and steel, reinforced concrete, and timber highway bridges and similar structures; performs work at heights in excess of 70 feet; and may perform work under water.
DRAFTING AID II – LIHUE, KAUAIPositions in this class are trainee positions and assigned tasks accordingly as part of the developmental process directed toward learning proper drafting techniques in an on-the-job training situation.
DRAFTING TECHNICIAN III, IV, V AND VI – LIHUE, KAUAIIndividually performs complex drafting work involving a high level of drafting skill, in an area of specialization; may serve as team leader for a small group of drafting technicians of lower level; and performs other related duties as assigned.
ELECTRONIC TRAFFIC SIGNAL TECH – HIGHWAYS DIVISION (LIHUE)Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Engineer, this position is responsible for maintaining the traffic signal system on Kauai; repairs all existing traffic signal equipment; assembles, tests, adjusts, installs and modifies electronic equipment; inspects traffic signals; maintains traffic signal inventory; maintains highway lighting inventory and inspects highway lighting facilities

ENGINEERING AID III AND IV – WAILUKU/KAHULUI, ISLAND OF MAUIPositions in this series require the application of some of the principles, methods and techniques in a specific or limited area of engineering, and a practical knowledge of the construction , application, properties, operation and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices or material, and as required, related manual, craft, instrument operation, mathematical, graphic or management skills and abilities.
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN VI – LIHUE, KAUAIA position at this level is characterized by the responsibility for carrying out a variety or sequence of technical operations that are not completely standardized or prescribed. The work requires the use of a variety of standard references, guides, and precedents to obtain needed information and to select and adapt methods and procedures. May serve as a supervisor of an organizational unit of engineering aids and other personnel of lower level performing engineering-support duties.
GENERAL LABORER II – HIGHWAYS DIVISION (KAHULUI)Performs a variety of semi-skilled manual work tasks involved in the maintenance of roads, buildings, structures and equipment, or refuse collection work involving continuous heavy physical labor as a major work assignment; and performs other related duties as assigned.

HIGHWAY LIGHTING WORKER I – HIGHWAYS DIVISION (MAPUNAPUNA BASEYARD)Participates in the installation, repair and maintenance of high voltage highway lighting systems; climb poles, relocates street and highway lighting arms; isolating transformers, luminaires, and wires as required.  Measures, cuts and threads electrical conduits; makes offsets and bends for the installation of underground electrical circuits.  Restore and repair fallen power lines and extinguish electrical fires. Restore for temporary use, poles and standards damaged by traffic accidents or unusual weather conditions. Locate and repair short, burnt-out ­open circuits and other defects in overhead and under­ground lines. Changes and replaces burnt out lamps, broken fixtures and control equipment. Subject to emergency calls during off-working hours to perform emergency repairs to the highway lighting system.  Makes periodic inspections of the highway lighting system and performs other duties as required.
HIGHWAY SAFETY SPECIALIST – HIGHWAYS DIVISION (AIEA, OAHU)Plans, develops, coordinates, implements and monitors highway safety projects and activities; and performs other duties as required.
LAND BOUNDARY SURVEYOR I – OAHUPerforms professional land surveying work in field surveying, office computations and land boundary research; gathers information pertaining to boundary surveys from maps, deeds, land titles, metes and bounds descriptions or other sources; plots field notes and land boundary data, traces final land maps and prepares simple metes and bounds descriptions; operates surveying instruments during field work; may serve as chief-of-party on routine surveys; and performs other related duties as assigned.
LAND BOUNDARY SURVEYOR II, III, IV AND V – OAHUThe Land Boundary Surveyor series includes all positions which supervise and primarily conduct triangulation and traverse surveys to locate and establish land boundaries and easements, prepare maps and metes and bounds descriptions of lands involved in airport, harbor and highway projects or other lands of State government interest, conduct triangulation surveys to establish accurate horizontal controls and leveling surveys to establish vertical controls and perform other survey related work for land owned, controlled or in the possession of the State for the purpose of using, selling, leasing, exchanging or improving such lands.                   Positions in this series require a substantive knowledge of State land laws, Land Court procedures and decisions and the land tenure history of the State of Hawaii; and the ability to supervise and deal effectively with others, do research on land boundary matters and prepare related records, maps and reports. The work also requires knowledge of surveying principles and techniques, mathematics through trigonometry; and the use, care and adjustment of survey instruments and equipment, including the transit, level, theodolite and electronic measuring devices.
LAND SURVEYOR I – HIGHWAYS DIVISION (MAPUNAPUNA BASEYARD)Provides land survey support for highway construction projects and highway special maintenance projects.
Serves as instrumentman on a variety of kind of surveys such as preliminary, topographic, construction or boundary surveys, using a transit, level, theodolite, and/or other survey instruments; reduces and plots field notes and performs related computations; may serve as chief-of-party on routine surveys; compiles data pertaining to surveys from maps, deeds, land titles, metes and bounds descriptions or other sources; and performs other related duties as assigned.
MAINTENANCE MECHANIC I – HALAWA TO KALIHI, OAHUIndependently performs skilled mechanical repair work in the adjustment, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of machinery and equipment such as water pumps, mechanical laundry equipment, and continuing work assignments in accordance with diagrams. Other duties include the  inspection, repair and conducting preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment in tunnels and on tunnels approaches, to conduct and report on structural inspections of tunnels, and viaducts, reading operating manuals, while following the manufacturer’s specifications, basic trade practices, and other related duties as assigned.  *Licenses Requirements
MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY OFFICER I – HIGHWAYS DIVISION (LIHUE)Motor Carrier Safety Officers are responsible for enforcing laws related to commercial vehicles including regulations relating to vehicle registration, safety and vehicle weight limits. Duties include conducting investigations, inspections and compliance surveys.
The Motor Carrier Safety Officer I is the entry level worker in the series. Positions in this class receive formal and on-the-job training on motor carrier safety rules and regulations, inspection practices and procedures, and accident investigation techniques; and perform other related duties as assigned.
RIGHT OF WAY AGENT V – HIGHWAYS DIVISION (KAPOLEI, OAHU)Supervises a staff of right-of-way agents engaged in the review and analysis of appraisal reports rendered by staff or fee appraisers and performs other related duties as required. 
SAP ACCOUNTING APPLICATIONS MANAGERServes as the SAP Accounting Applications Manager for the Highways Financial Management System development initiative that is led by the Highways Division. This position is critical in the building, the configuration and establishment of the new SAP S/4 HANA ERP System to replace the existing Highways Accounting System (HWYAC) and is responsible for the planning, designing, implementation and maintenance of the SAP S/4 HANA ERP System.
TRAFFIC STRIPING MACHINE OPERATOR II – HIGHWAYS DIVISION (MAPUNAPUNA BASEYARD)Operates traffic striping machines in painting traffic regulatory markings on streets and highways as a major work assignment and performs operational maintenance; and performs other related duties as assigned.
