HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists of nightly closures on the H-1 Freeway for overhead sign work at the Kaahumanu Street Overpass, Waiawa Road Overpass, and H-1/H-2 Split over the next month.

Closures will occur Monday nights through Friday mornings from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. If necessary, a fourth lane will be closed from 12 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Crews will begin by spending three nights changing signs on the right at each location and then three nights at each location on the left. The current signs will be removed, and crews will install the new signs the following night. Locations may be without signage for a period of up to 24 hours.

Next week’s lane closures are as follows:

Monday night, July 31, through Thursday morning, Aug. 3
Three to four westbound right lanes will be closed between the Kaonohi Street Overpass and the Pearl City/Waimalu offramp (Exit 10).

Thursday night, Aug. 3, through Friday morning, Aug. 4
Three to four westbound right lanes will be closed between the Lehua Avenue Underpass and the H-1/H-2 Split.

The work to update the signage is anticipated to be complete by the end of August. Electronic message boards have been posted to notify motorists of the closures. Roadwork is weather permitting.

Weekly roadwork updates will be posted on the HDOT website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/oahu/. HDOT thanks the community for their patience and encourages motorists to use traffic apps such as GoAkamai to plan their commutes.
