Oahu Lane Closures

HDOT has suspended daytime construction closures on major state highways from August 26-30 between the hours of 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. for Beat the School Jam.

 During the daytime construction break, emergency closures, nighttime construction, and roadwork that does not involve lane closures may still be scheduled.

 Exceptions to the daytime construction break are noted below in bold.

 

 OAHU LANE CLOSURES

FOR THE WEEK OF AUG. 25 – 30

PLEASE NOTE: Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice and do not include roving hazard debris patrols. All projects are weather permitting.

— H-1 FREEWAY —

1) AIEA TO PEARL CITY (NIGHT WORK)

Nighttime closure of three right lanes on the H-1 eastbound between the Pearl City viaduct to the Aiea offramp on Wednesday, August 28 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. for shoulder widening.

2) AIEA (WEEKEND/DAILY SHOULDER WORK)

Shoulder closure on the H-1 eastbound between the Waimalu viaduct to the Aiea pedestrian overpass on Sunday, August 25 from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. for shoulder widening.

  • The shoulder will also be closed daily Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Note, the shoulder express lane hours in this area are 5-9 a.m.

3) HONOLULU TO HAWAII KAI

Roving maintenance detail in the shoulders and medians of the H-1 Freeway in both directions between the King Street offramps and Ainakoa Avenue on Tuesday, August 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. No travel lanes will be closed.

4) HONOLULU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Nightly right lane closure on the H-1 eastbound between the Kapiolani Interchange and Ainakoa Avenue on Sunday, August 25 and Monday, August 26 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for guardrail and shoulder improvements.

5) HONOLULU (24-HOUR WORK)

24/7 shoulder closures on the H-1 Freeway in the following locations for guardrail and shoulder improvements:

  • 100-foot shoulder closure on the H-1 westbound at the Aala Overpass
  • 200-foot shoulder closure on H-1 westbound at the Liliha Street Overpass
  • 200-foot shoulder closure on H-1 eastbound at the Liliha Street Overpass

6) HONOLULU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)
Lane and ramp closures on the H-1 Freeway near Palama for guardrail and shoulder improvements. Related closures are:

  • School Street onramp to the H-1 westbound to close nightly from Sunday, August 25 to Friday, August 30 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Motorists will be detoured
  • Two right lanes and shoulder lane on the H-1 westbound between the Punchbowl onramp and the Palama Street offramp will be closed nightly from Sunday, August 25 to Friday, August 30 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
  • Two right lanes and shoulder lane on the H-1 eastbound between the Palama overpass and the Liliha Street onramp will be closed nightly from Sunday, August 25 to Friday, August 30 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

7) KAIMUKI (NIGHT WORK)

Nightly closure of the Waialae Avenue onramp to the H-1 westbound and single lane closure leading to the onramp Monday, August 26 through Thursday, August 29 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for destination sign replacements. Motorists will be detoured to the 11th Avenue onramp.

8) KAPOLEI (NIGHT WORK)

Left lane closure on the H-1 Freeway westbound between the Makakilo Drive onramp and the Farrington Highway offramp on Tuesday, August 27 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. for the Kapolei Interchange Phase 2.

9) KAPOLEI (NIGHT WORK)

Left lane closure on the H-1 Freeway eastbound between the Farrington Highway overpass and the Makakilo Drive onramp on Tuesday, August 27 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. for the Kapolei Interchange Phase 2.

10) WAIPAHU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)
Closure of two right lanes on the H-1 Freeway between the Military Access Road overpass and the Kunia offramp on Friday, August 23 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for replacement of raised pavement markers.

11) ZIPPER LANE/ ZIP HALE

Maintenance crews will be cleaning the H-1 Zipper Lane and the Zip Hale on Friday, August 30. Do not be alarmed by additional activity in this area.

 — H-201 MOANALUA FREEWAY —

1) AIEA (NIGHT WORK)

Nightly single lane closures on the H-201 Moanalua Freeway onramp from Moanalua Road in the eastbound direction Monday, August 26 through Thursday, August 29 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for destination sign replacements.

2) AIEA

Maintenance crews will be working in the shoulder of the H-201 Moanalua Freeway between Puuloa and McGrew Point on Monday, August 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

3) FORT SHAFTER (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Right lane closure on the H-201 Moanalua Freeway in the westbound direction between the Airport/Hickam/Pearl Harbor offramp and the Fort Shafter offramp on Sunday, August 25 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for retaining wall utilities to support the Moanalua Freeway lighting improvements.

4) FORT SHAFTER (NIGHT WORK)

Lane closures in both directions on the H-201 Moanalua Freeway in the vicinity of the Middle Street Overpass Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for utility work to support the Moanalua Freeway lighting improvements. During this closure one lane will be maintained for travel on the H-201 eastbound Fort Shafter/King Street offramp and on the westbound Fort Shafter offramp.

— PALI HIGHWAY (ROUTE 61) —

1) NUUANU TO KANEOHE (WEEKEND/WEEKLY CLOSURE)
Pali Highway (Route 61) is closed in both directions between Waokanaka Street and Kamehameha Highway for slope stabilization. Access to Pali Highway is available Sunday through Friday (no Saturday access) on the schedule below:

  • Honolulu-bound AM contraflow is open from 5 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Kailua-bound access is open from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

2) NUUANU (24/7 CLOSURE)

24/7 closure of the right lane of Pali Highway Kailua bound between Waokanaka Street and Upper Nuuanu Pali Drive for drainage pipe replacement.

Note: This exemption from the daytime construction closure restriction was granted as the trench for the drainage pipe replacement cannot be temporarily closed.

3) NUUANU

Closure of the right and middle lanes of Pali Highway (Route 61) in the Honolulu-bound direction between Wyllie Street and Country Club Road Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., for the City’s Dowsett Highlands Sewer Relief project (http://palisewer.org).

Note: This exemption from the daytime construction closure restriction was granted to help the City make its consent decree deadline and in consideration of lower vehicle volumes when the Pali Highway AM Contraflow is not open.

4) NUUANU

Closure of the left and middle lanes of Pali Highway (Route 61) in the Honolulu-bound direction between Country Club Road and Dowsett Avenue Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., for the City’s Dowsett Highlands Sewer Relief project (http://palisewer.org).

5) NUUANU
Closure of the far right lane and frontage road on Pali Highway (Route 61) in the Honolulu-bound direction between Dowsett Avenue and Nuuanu Pali Drive Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., for the City’s Dowsett Highlands Sewer Relief project (http://palisewer.org).

6) NUUANU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Nightly full closure of Pali Highway (Route 61) in the Honolulu-bound direction between the Wylie Street overpass and Pauoa Road offramp on Sunday night, August 25, through Friday morning, August 30, from 6:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., for the Pali Highway Resurfacing project. After 2:30 a.m. all but one lane will open. The left lane may remain closed to 4 a.m. depending on traffic and work flow. Detour signs to Wylie Street and Nuuanu Avenue will be posted. 7) NUUANU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Nightly left lane closure on the Pali Highway (Route 61) in the Kailua-bound direction between the Pauoa Road underpass and Wylie Street overpass on Sunday night, August 25, through Friday morning, August 30, from 8:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., for the Pali Highway Resurfacing project. Roving maintenance detail in the shoulder of Likelike Highway in both directions between Nalanieha Street and the tunnels Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30 from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. No travel lanes will be closed.

— KALIHI STREET (ROUTE 63) —

1) KALIHI (WEEKEND WORK)

Right lane closure and lane shift on Kalihi Street northbound between Dillingham Boulevard and King Street on Sunday, August 25 between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for sidewalk demolition and construction. Sidewalks between Eluwne Street and Ashford Street will be closed as the work progresses.

2) KALIHI (NIGHT WORK)

Nightly right lane closure and lane shift on Kalihi Street northbound between Dillingham Boulevard and King Street Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30 between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. for sidewalk demolition and construction. Sidewalks between Eluwne Street and Ashford Street will be closed as the work progresses.

1) HAWAII KAI

Maintenance crews will be working in the median/shoulders on Kalanianaole Highway between Ainakoa Avenue and Lunalilo Home Road on Wednesday, August 28 and Thursday, August 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

2) WAIMANALO

Shoulder closure on Kalanianaole Highway between the Olomana Golf Course and Poalima Street in both directions Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for sign installations and landscaping.

— KAHEKILI HIGHWAY (ROUTE 83) —

1) KAHALUU TO KANEOHE

Maintenance crews will be conducting litter and graffiti removal in the shoulders on Kahekili Highway on Friday, August 30 from 7:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

2) KAHALUU TO KANEOHE

Maintenance crews will be trimming grass in the shoulders on Kahekili Highway Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30 from 7:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

— KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY (ROUTES 80/83/99) —

1) LAIE TO HALEIWA

Maintenance crews will be working in the shoulder of Kamehameha Highway in various locations Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

2) PEARL CITY (24/7 ADJUSTMENT)

  • From Tuesday, August 20, the right hand turn from westbound Kamehameha Highway onto Kuala Street may be closed between 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

3) PEARL CITY (24/7 ADJUSTMENT)

4) WAIMEA

Shoulder closure on Kamehameha Highway in the Haleiwa bound direction near Waimea Beach Park on Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for utility pole excavations in advance of transports for the Na Pua Makani Wind project.

5) WHEELER ARMY AIRFIELD/ WAIPIO ACRES

Shoulder closure on Kamehameha Highway in the southbound direction between Leilehua Road and Waikalani Drive Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for slope improvements for erosion control.

— ALA MOANA BOULEVARD (ROUTE 92) —

1) HONOLULU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Nightly right lane closure on Ala Moana Boulevard eastbound at the Atkinson Road intersection on Sunday, August 25, through Thursday, August 29 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., for City paving of Ala Moana Park Drive.

Maintenance crews will landscape in the medians/shoulders on Ala Moana Boulevard between Ward Avenue and Kalakaua Avenue on Wednesday, August 28 from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

1) AIRPORT AREA

Maintenance crews will be working on the sidewalk of westbound Nimitz Highway at Valkenburg Street Monday, August 26 through Thursday, August 29 between 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

2) HONOLULU (24/7 CLOSURE)

Closure of HOV ramp onto eastbound Nimitz Highway (Route 92) for safety buffer as HART’s contractor installs guideway shafts. The closure will end at 5 a.m. Monday, August 26.

3) HONOLULU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Nightly closure of the Dillingham offramp from the Nimitz Highway (Route 92) eastbound on Sunday, August 25, through Thursday, August 29, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., for concrete repairs.

4) HONOLULU

Maintenance crews will landscape in the medians/shoulders on Nimitz Highway between the offramp from the Airport Viaduct to Punchbowl Street on Tuesday, August 27 from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

— FARRINGTON HIGHWAY (ROUTES 93/930) —

1) KAPOLEI

Maintenance crews will be doing shoulder and median work on Farrington Highway in Kapolei near Waiomea Street and Fort Barrette Road Monday, August 26 through Friday, August 30 between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m.

2) NANAKULI

Maintenance crews will be replacing delineators in various locations on Farrington Highway in Nanakuli Friday, August 30 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. No lanes are expected to be closed for this work.

3) NANAKULI (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Nightly closures of two lanes on Farrington Highway between Hakimo Road and Lualei Place on Sunday, August 25 and Monday, August 26 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for installation of weigh-in-motion and traffic sensors. One lane in each direction will be maintained during the closure.

  • Sunday night: Two eastbound lanes will be closed with contraflow on the westbound side.
  • Monday night: Two westbound lanes will be closed with contraflow on the eastbound side.

4) NANAKULI TO WAIANAE (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Nightly closures on Farrington Highway in both directions between Maiuu Road and Hakimo Road on Sunday, August 25 through Thursday, August 29 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for striping of crosswalks and stop bars. One lane in each direction will be maintained during the closure.

Nightly closure of two eastbound lanes of Farrington Highway Monday, August 26 through Thursday, August 29 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for manhole adjustments following the Farrington Highway Resurfacing. One lane in each direction will be maintained during the closure.

Maintenance crews will be replacing ADA mats at various locations on Farrington Highway in Waianae Monday, August 26 through Thursday, August 29 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Crews to restripe the double yellow lines on various roads in the Mapunapuna area on Friday, August 30 between 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Striping will require single lane closures. The roads the crews are set to restripe are the state owned portions of: Kakoi Street; Ahua Street; Mapunapuna Street; Kikowaena Place; Salt Lake Boulevard; and Puuloa Road.

— DANIEL K. INOUYE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT —

1) SECOND LEVEL DEPARTURES DECK (NIGHT WORK)

Nighttime roadway closure at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport on Monday, August 26 from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for sign replacements. During the closure on the Second Level Departures Deck there will be no access to Interisland Departures, the Terminal 1 parking garage, or Terminal 2. Travelers may access the terminals and parking from the ground level of the airport.
