Nightly closure of two lanes at a time from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. will allow crews to complete modifications to extend an exit only lane to the Waialae Offramp.

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies Oahu motorists of planned work on the H-1 eastbound between the Kapiolani Boulevard Onramp and the Waialae Avenue Offramp. The work will involve closures of two lanes at a time and is scheduled nightly between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday, October 13 through Thursday, October 17, 2019.

Crews will be restriping the area to provide space for the extension of the storage lane leading to the Waialae Offramp. Following the completion of the work, the storage lane will extend from the vicinity of the 15th Avenue Overpass and the eastbound lanes in the area will be 11-feet in width. The storage lane will be an ‘Exit Only’ lane to the Waialae Avenue Offramp.

Additional work to install signage for the ‘Exit Only’ lane is currently scheduled to begin Sunday, Oct. 20.

Electronic message boards will be posted to notify motorists of the closures. The Waialae Avenue Offramp from the H-1 eastbound will remain open during the nightwork.

Guardrail and shoulder improvement work will continue during the day on the H-1 eastbound between the Kapiolani Interchange and Ainakoa Avenue. All work is weather permitting.
