In collaboration with the Transportation Security Administration and the Airlines Committee of Hawaii, DOT dedicated a new security screening checkpoint at Kahului Airport today which will increase the number of screening lanes from six to nine and help to reduce wait times for air travelers.

DOT advises Oahu motorists of changes to traffic patterns as part of the H-201 Moanalua Freeway lane modifications in the westbound direction between the Stadium/Halawa/Camp Smith Off-Ramp (Exit 1E) and the H-201 and H-1 Split. Nighttime work is scheduled to begin next week.

State, county and federal officials topped-off construction of the new Kahoma Stream Bridge in Lahaina today, a part of the Honoapiilani Highway Realignment Project. The new two-lane, 360 foot bridge which spans the Kahoma Stream Gulch is anticipated to open in December 2012.

Eleven new fire-fighters will be assigned to Aircraft Rescue & Fire-Fighting stations at Kahului, Kapalua, Molokai and Lanai Airports after graduating today from the Maui County Department of Fire and Public Safety training program.

The state Department of Transportation, Airports Division, Maui District, will be conducting a triennial emergency response exercise on Wednesday, October 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The exercise is a Federal Aviation Administration certification requirement to test airfield disaster and response and will simulate an airliner crash at the airport. All flight operations will continue as normal during the exercise.

The sixth annual Hawaii Construction Career Days event took place today at the Hilo Civic Auditorium, providing nearly 900 students from 20 Big Island schools with career guidance from construction industry, trade and educational representatives. Students also received hands-on experience with specialized heavy equipment and trade tools.

The state Department of Transportation announces the opening of the Karsten Thot Bridge in Wahiawa beginning Friday, October 19, at 5 a.m. The speed limit will be reduced to 15 mph from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., daily, as work will continue under the bridge.
