HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that the westbound H-1 Freeway offramp from the H-201 Moanalua Freeway toward Aiea/Pearl City will be closed in the overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., on Monday night, Feb. 5, 2018, through Friday morning, Feb. 9, 2018, for paving work. The work began on Sunday’s in previous weeks.

Motorists on the H-201 Moanalua Freeway westbound will have two detour options. One is to exit onto Kamehameha Highway and continue westbound (this route is recommended). The other option is to exit at the Halawa/Stadium/Camp Smith offramp (Exit 1E), continue on Ulune Street, turn left (southwest) on Kaimakani Street, then right (northwest) on Moanalua Road. See detour map below.

There will also be one lane closed on the H-201 Moanalua Freeway/H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction between the H-3 Freeway/Kaneohe offramp (Exit 1D) and the Aiea Heights Drive Overpass on Monday night, Feb. 5, 2018, through Friday morning, Feb. 9, 2018, beginning at 9 p.m., nightly.

HDOT advises motorists to avoid using the H-201 Moanalua Freeway if possible during the scheduled closure and use the H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct as an alternate route.

Following this week’s closures, roadwork will resume its normal schedule of Sunday nights through Friday mornings until the project is finished within the next two months. Weekly roadwork updates will be posted on the HDOT website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/ and on our social media sites on Facebook and Twitter.

This closure is for the Halawa Interchange Westbound Improvements project which will add a third lane to the H-1 Freeway/Pearl City offramp from the H-201 Moanalua Freeway. Conceptual drawings showing the additional lane are available at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/H-201-to-H-1-Additional-Lane-Concept.pdf

Electronic message boards have been posted to notify motorists of the closures. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork closure. Roadwork is weather permitting.
