Kalanianaole Highway Resurfacing project from West Hind Drive to the H-1 Freeway begins Sunday, June 3

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies the public that construction for the Kalanianaole Highway Resurfacing project from West Hind Drive to the H-1 Freeway will begin on Sunday night, June 3, 2018. Roadwork will be scheduled in both directions on Sunday nights through Friday mornings, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., nightly, for highway improvements and road repairs.   • Two lanes will be closed on Kalanianaole Highway in the eastbound direction between Ainakoa Avenue and West Hind Drive on Sunday night, June 3, 2018, through Wednesday morning, June 6, 2018, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
  • Two lanes will be closed on Kalanianaole Highway in the westbound direction between West Hind Drive and Ainakoa Avenue on Wednesday night, June 6, 2018, through Friday morning, June 8, 2018, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Traffic will be contraflowed in the lanes traveling in the opposite direction of the closure. Construction improvements consists of repaving and reconstructing weakened pavement areas, replacing loop detectors, upgrading traffic counting stations, adjusting utility manhole frames and covers, installing backplates with retroreflective borders on all overhead traffic signals, installing milepost reference markers, pavement markings, striping and signing. Roadwork will also be scheduled from West Hind Drive to Lunalilo Home Road to replace the existing lane striping with profiled thermoplastic striping.

The Kalanianaole Highway Resurfacing project will consist of night work only. HDOT personnel and the general contractor will monitor construction activities to ensure the use of appropriate noise abatement measures and equipment during working hours. This project is anticipated to be completed by early 2019, weather permitting.
