Kuhio Highway (Route 560) emergency work for March 2019
Posted on Mar 14, 2019 in Highways Posts, Main, NewsLIHUE – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) announces planned closures in two locations on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) for the Kuhio Highway Emergency Repairs project. All work is weather permitting.
First responders have been notified and have planned staging and procedures in the event of an emergency requiring them to access the work zones.
The closures have been scheduled to limit impacts to the limited access convoys to Wainiha and Haena to the fullest extent possible. Emergency work effecting the convoy schedule is noted in the closure details below.
Airlift to support TECCO mesh installations between Waikoko and Wainiha.
- Friday, March 15, morning and afternoon
- Work will begin after the 8:20 a.m. convoy into Wainiha.
- The 12:45 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. convoys will be cancelled.
Closure of Kuhio Highway (Route 560) at Waioli Bridge between Anae Road and Kumu Road for deck preparation and cleaning.
- Thursday, March 21 through Friday, March 22, 7 p.m. to 5:50 a.m.
- Closure will begin after the 7 p.m. convoy to Waikoko.
- Convoy schedule will run according to the night work schedule at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/files/2018/11/2018-11-21-Convoy-Schedule.pdf
- The 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. convoys will run.
- Closure will end before the 5:50 a.m. convoy on Friday, March 22

Closure of Kuhio Highway (Route 560) at Waioli Bridge between Anae Road and Kumu Road for concrete pour and reinforcement.
- Friday, March 22 through Saturday, March 23, 7 p.m. to 5:50 a.m.
- Closure will begin after the 7 p.m. convoy to Waikoko.
- Convoy schedule will run according to the night work schedule at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/files/2018/11/2018-11-21-Convoy-Schedule.pdf
- Parking areas at Waipa and at Hanalei School, shuttles, and pedestrian access will be available for those wanting to cross the bridge during this time. Pedestrian access will only be allowed in coordination with the shuttle.
- The 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. convoys will not run.
- Closure will end before the 5:50 a.m. convoy on Saturday, March 23
The REGULAR convoy schedule will resume at 5:50 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019.
