HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) informs Oahu motorists that the H-1 Freeway and Farrington Highway will be closed in both directions from Laaloa Street to the Makakilo Drive overpass on Monday night, June 15, 2020 through Tuesday morning, June 16, 2020 from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., to safely remove the existing freeway signs. Full closures are also permitted on Tuesday night, June 16, and Wednesday night, June 17, but may not occur if the work is completed on Monday.

Motorists traveling in the westbound direction on the H-1 Freeway will be directed to Makakilo Drive via the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa offramp (Exit 2), take a right onto Kamokila Boulevard, a right onto the new Wakea Street overpass, and continue onto the Farrington Highway onramp to return to the westbound H-1 Freeway. Motorists traveling on Farrington Highway in the eastbound direction will be diverted onto the inside lane of westbound Farrington Highway at Laaloa Street. Motorists will continue in the inside lane on the westbound H-1 Freeway then take the Makakilo onramp, make a right onto Makakilo Drive and re-enter the eastbound H-1 Freeway from the eastbound Makakilo Drive onramp.

Other closures scheduled for the Kapolei Interchange project for the week starting on Sunday, June 14 are listed below:

• Right lane closure on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction between the Makakilo Drive overpass and the Wakea Street overpass on Monday night through Friday from 8: 30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for landscaping work.
• Right lane and shoulder closure on Farrington Hwy in the eastbound direction between Laaloa Street and the Kalaeloa Boulevard overpass on Tuesday night through Thursday morning, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., for guardrail installations.
• Right shoulder closure on Farrington Hwy in the eastbound direction in the vicinity of the Kalaeloa Boulevard overpass on Monday night through Wednesday morning, from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for guardrail repairs.

Motorists are advised to allow for extra travel time to get to their destinations. Electronic message boards will be in place to notify motorists of the closures and detours. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control and safety procedures. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the full closure and will not be allowed through the work zone. All roadwork is weather permitting.
