Kalanianaʻole Highway closed between Lānaʻi Lookout and Hālona Lookout on April 27
Posted on Apr 24, 2026 in Highways Posts, Main, NewsHONOLULU – The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies Oʻahu motorists that Kalanianaʻole Highway will be closed between Lānaʻi Lookout and Hālona Lookout on Monday, April 27, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., for filming and in-kind grass and shrub trimming. Downtown Honolulu-bound traffic will be allowed through the closure limits from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.
During closure hours, highway users will be directed to Lunalilo Home Road, Hawaiʻi Kai Drive and Kealahou Street to go between Hawai‘i Kai and Waimānalo. Monday was selected for the permit date as Hanauma Bay is closed and the Koko Head Shooting Complex is not open to the public on this day of the week. Those needing to access these city facilities for official business will be allowed through the closure.
Intermittent traffic control (ITC) for filming has also been permitted for Tuesday, April 28. The permitted ITC may take place between 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. and is limited to holds of 3-5 minutes with no more than four holds of traffic per hour.
HDOT reminds highway users to allow for extra travel time and follow all traffic control signs in the area. Special duty police officers will be on-site assisting with traffic control and safety procedures.
