SCHEDULED CLOSURES FOR LIKELIKE HIGHWAY CONTINUE MARCH 15

HONOLULU – The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) informs highway users of an update to roadwork scheduled for the Likelike Highway Safety Improvement Project, from Kahekili Highway to Nālani‘ehā Street,  beginning on Friday night, March 15. Motorists are reminded of full closures scheduled on weekends, in one direction at a time, beginning in the Kāneʻohe-bound direction. Weekdays will have single lane closures in both directions. Details are as follows:

Weekend full closures :

  • Kāneʻohe-bound continuous closure, beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, March 15 through 5 a.m. on Monday, March 18.
  • Honolulu-bound continuous closure, beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 22 through 4:30 a.m. on Monday, March 25.

HDOT crews will finish weather-delayed  high friction surface treatment (HFST) installation in both directions. To alleviate safety concerns and to speed up work, Oʻahu Transit Services (TheBus), first responders and paratransit vehicles will not be allowed through the work area.

Daytime work (Monday through Friday)

  • Roving single lane closure in the Honolulu-bound direction on Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Roving single lane in the Kāneʻohe-bound direction on Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Daytime work involves installation of guardrails and impact attenuators and will be ongoing until the end of the project, which is slated for August 2024. All work is weather permitting and may change.
