HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that the 24/7 lane closure on Kamehameha Highway between Keo Place and Trout Farm Road, fronting the Crouching Lion Inn in Kaaawa will end this Friday, Sept. 4, at 4:00 p.m.

The 24/7 northbound lane closure was necessary for emergency roadwork to repair a section of the highway next to the shoreline. This closure allowed crews to successfully stabilize the road behind the existing concrete rubble masonry (CRM) wall.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 8, a daytime northbound lane closure will be instated at the same location from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Traffic will be contraflowed through the remaining open lane. This closure will occur daily, Monday through Friday, for the next three weeks, weather and tide permitting. The remaining work consists of road paving, permanent striping installations, utility modifications, and sandbag removal.

Flaggers will be on-site during construction hours to assist traffic flow. Police officers will also monitor traffic and provide priority for emergency vehicles passing through the closure area.

“The Hawaii Department of Transporation recognizes the impact a 24/7 lane closure has on the community. We truly appreciate the patience of residents, businesses and motorists in the area,” said Ford Fuchigami, HDOT Director. “Losing the highway to erosion would have had a far greater impact. The emergency improvements made to this section of the highway will last for many years to come.”
