HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies the public that the Waianae/Wahiawa offramp from Moanalua Road to the westbound H-1 Freeway in Pearl City will be closed on Wednesday night, Aug. 1, 2018, and Thursday night, Aug. 2, 2018, from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., nightly, to conduct surveying work for the installation of 80 additional concrete roadway panels.

Westbound motorists are advised to stay on Moanalua Road or take Kamehameha Highway as an alternate route. To view the progress of the panel installations please visit the project website at https://h1waimalu.com/construction-updates/

The Portland Cement Concrete Pavement Rehabilitation project, Phase 1, will rehabilitate approximately 2 miles of the H-1 Freeway between Waimalu and Halawa through the installation of 1,359 precast concrete slabs which is expected to be completed by September 2018. When Phase 1 is finished, crews will move on to widen the shoulder along the H-1 Freeway eastbound between the Waimalu Viaduct and the Aiea Offramp. This work will involve concrete paving of the shoulder, construction of retaining walls, improvement of street lighting and drainage, and safety upgrades. Closures for Phase 2 work are expected through 2020.

The majority of Phase 2 work will happen behind a concrete barrier and will not impact AM shoulder lane use in the area; however, closing of the shoulder will be scheduled for concrete paving. Additional lane closures for utility and electrical work will be necessary in Phase 2 but are not expected to require the multi-lane closures associated with the Phase 1 work.
