HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists of lane closures on the eastbound H-1 Freeway between the Gulick Street overpass and the Punahou Street offramp (Exit 23) in the overnight hours from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018 to Friday, Feb. 2, 2018. The work will consist of guardrail improvements and topographic survey control installations for an upcoming project.

Up to three right lanes will be closed on the eastbound H-1 Freeway including a closure of the Ward Avenue onramp. Motorists may use the Vineyard Boulevard onramp or the Piikoi Street onramp as alternate means of accessing the eastbound H-1 Freeway.

On the nights of Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 through Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018 the Punchbowl Street offramp (Exit 21B) will be closed. Motorists may use the Pali Highway offramp (Exit 21A) or the Kinau Street offramp (Exit 22) to access the Downtown Honolulu area.

Electronic message boards have been posted to warn motorists of the closures. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will be allowed through the ramp closures.

HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time and check traffic apps before heading to their destinations. Roadwork is weather permitting.
