Schedule for night work for Waipa Bridge repairs through April 30

Night work is now planned for Friday, April 26. There will be no night work on Saturday, April 27 as previously arranged. The remainder of the night work schedule for April 22-30 remains as written below.
LIHUE – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) alerts the public of planned night work on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) at Waipa Bridge past Kumu Road and before the Waikoko checkpoint beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, April 19.
The upcoming schedule for night work is as follows:
Friday, April 19
- The convoy will run on the Sunday/Holiday schedule as posted here during the day on Friday, April 19 in observance of Good Friday.
- After the 7 p.m. convoy from Wainiha to Hanalei, pedestrian access will be provided to residents using the established Park and Ride and shuttle system (see details below) until the first convoy at 5:50 a.m. on Saturday, April 20.
Saturday, April 20
- The convoy will run on the Monday-Saturday schedule as posted here until the 7 p.m. convoy run is completed.
- After the 7 p.m. convoy from Wainiha to Hanalei, pedestrian access will be provided to residents using the established Park and Ride and shuttle system (see details below) until the first convoy at 6 a.m. on Sunday, April 21.
Sunday, April 21 (CANCELED, CONVOY WILL RUN ON SUNDAY/HOLIDAY SCHEDULE)
The convoy will run on the Sunday/Holiday schedule during the day.After the 7 p.m. convoy from Wainiha to Hanalei, pedestrian access will be provided to residents using the established Park and Ride and shuttle system (see details below) until the first convoy at 5:50 a.m. on Monday, April 22.
Phase II of the Waipa Bridge night work will begin on Monday, April 22 and continue through Tuesday, April 30 (ending before the 5:50 a.m. convoy on Wednesday, May 1).
There will be no closures occurring on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27.
The regular convoy schedule, with modifications as noted below, will be in place during the night work activities. The Contractor worked with the Hanalei Colony Resort to provide a shuttle for residents from the West Waipa Park and Ride into Wainiha.
The night shuttle service is available for residents only.
The upcoming night work at Waipa is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 22, 2019 and will continue through Tuesday, April 30, 2019 according to the following schedule:
Waipa Bridge Night Work (Phase II)
- Monday, April 22 – Tuesday, April 30 (with no night work on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27)
- Work to take place nightly from 7 p.m. (after the last car passes through the convoy) to 5:50 a.m.
- Parking areas on either side of Waipā Bridge and pedestrian access will be available for those wanting to cross the bridge during night work hours

7:00 PM Wainiha to Hanalei (NOTE: This is the LAST CONVOY where you can drive all the way to Hanalei until the next morning at 5:50 a.m. Residents needing to go to Hanalei will need to leave their cars at the Waipa Bridge Park and Ride then cross the pedestrian bridge where a shuttle will transport you to the Waipa Bridge Park and Ride.)

- Parking will be available on both the East and West sides of Waipā Bridge. Residents wanting to cross the bridge will need to leave their vehicles in the parking lots and cross Waipā Bridge using the pedestrian overpass. The East Park and Ride lot is located at the contractor’s staging area as you approach Waipā on the mauka side of Kuhio Highway. A shuttle will be provided to transport residents from the Park and Ride area to the bridge. The West Park and Ride lot is located immediately adjacent to the bridge. Residents will be able to easily walk from the Park and Ride lot to the pedestrian overpass.
All work is weather permitting. First responders have been notified and have planned staging and procedures in the event of an emergency requiring them to access the work zones.
Arrangements have been made to ensure the Akita school bus that heads to Wainiha at 5:20 a.m. is able to cross the Waipa Bridge as scheduled throughout the night work schedule.
