HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that all lanes will be closed on Kamehameha Highway in both directions between Whitmore Avenue and Kilani Avenue at the Karsten Thot Bridge on Monday, Nov. 23, and Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., for preparation work for the repair and repaint project.

The Karsten Thot Bridge height clearance will be lowered to 12 feet beginning Monday, Nov. 30 through May 2016.  Construction includes steel bridge frame repairs, concrete crack and spall repairs, replacement of steel bridge railings and repainting. Emergency vehicles, first responders and TheBus have been notified and will be allowed through if the vehicle height is less than 12 feet. Electronic message boards will be deployed to inform motorists of the new height restriction.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead, allow for extra travel time and use alternate routes such as Wilikina Drive.

HDOT appreciates the public’s cooperation as we continue to ensure the safety of our roadways. For more information on the Karsten Thot Bridge project please call the hotline at 808-518-4576 or visit the website at https://www.rrkarstenthot.com/.
