Medical Certification
Applicants seeking a commercial driver’s license (CDL) or renewing or transferring their CDL will be required to provide proof of medical certification under a federal law that takes effect at the end of January 2012. Beginning May 19, 2025, this medical certification information will be updated electronically to the Driver License Information System through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s National Registry database via the CDL holder’s medical examiner.
You can find out more information regarding the May 19, 2025, requirements HERE.
Under the requirements set forth by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, all states must begin collecting and maintaining medical certification information from commercial drivers when they apply for an initial CDL, renew the CDL or when they transfer their commercial license from another state.
